Asmali Konak Otel, Safranbolu

Normally I do not recommend specific hotels in my personal blog, unless I found them to be unique or is good value for money. Asmali Konak, a small family-run hotel in the old town of Safranbolu, fits into the 'good value for money' category.

Located at the centre of Safranbolu's Old Town, near the town square and the Cinci Haman turkish bath complex, Asmali Konak is a restored old Ottoman house with a spacious garden. When the weather is warm enough, traditional turkish breakfast is served in the garden.

All rooms have en-suite facilities, with views over the garden.

The breakfast served is the simple traditional Turkish breakfast, with plenty of bread. Nothing to write home about really, but I had seen much worse things before, at least the honey is quite decent and there is a hard-boiled egg. I heard some hotels in Turkey don't even bother to give guests a hard-boiled egg for breakfast.

Now let's take a look at the rooms. I was given a room with three beds, en-suite facilities (shower, toilet and 24-hour hot water), TV and refrigerator. Free wireless internet is available throughout the entire hotel. The room is spacious, airy and very clean.

The good thing about the shower is, the water is hot enough and the water pressure is sufficient. The negative side is, like many other hotels in Turkey, there is no proper division between the shower area and the toilet, which means the whole bathroom will be wet and slippery after taking a shower. But for just 40TL per night with breakfast, it is still good value for money for Safranbolu.
